We are so lucky to have wonderful websites where we can play the game we love. Some sites allow you to play by yourself, against robots, and some offer instructional hints about hands that might work for you. Another site allows you to play against others, and play Siamese with just one other person. All of these sites have really helped us all during this challenging time.
Myjongg.net offers a few options. You can play alone against robots, or with a friend or two and a robot, or just with friends. Play is free for four games a day. For more games you need to pay, and if you want “help” to figure out which hand to play, you can get that for a bit more money.
Realmahjongg.com also gives you the opportunity to play with friends, robots, or a combination thereof. There’s a fee to play, altho there’s a free introductory period.
There’s also Mahjongtime.com, a wonderful site where you can play many different versions of the game, but always against other players (although you play against robots in the “school” to learn how to play on the site.) Be sure you go the the NMJL game. You can also play Siamese Mahjongg here, a version of the game where each player (there are two players at each table) plays two hands! Don’t do this one until you feel comfortable with the game.
The National Mah Jongg League has an online game. Go to their website to get information. www.nationalmahjonggleague.org
A great new app is available for iphone owners. American MahJong Practice (and then whatever year it is based on the NMJL card). It’s a fabulous way to perfect your game. No need for wifi (you can play anywhere!) and there’s a pattern guide to help you move toward a hand to play. You can’t play against other people, but it’s a wonderful way to learn the hands.
